Series 2 follows the continuing adventures of Dafne Keen 's Lyra Belacqua who (spoiler alert if you've yet to catch up to the end of the first) moving between the worlds, and her first meeting with Will Parry (Amir Wilson). The pair finds themselves in the mysterious mediterranean-style city of Cittàgazze, haunted by spectres and full of danger, and where they'll realise more about their destinies.

In their own world, the Magisterium is gearing up for a huge war to maintain their control, and the Witches are set for battle against them. Thanks to its microscopic budget and major success at the box office, the 2007 film Paranormal Activity, scored a return on investment of 19,758 percent, absolutely blowing away the next most profitable film (2015 horror film The Gallows, with an ROI of 6,843 percent). It cost just $60,000 to make and another $400,000 or so to market, yet ultimately brought in more than $89 million.

His Dark Materials should be returning to BBC One on 15 November, followed by a 16 November launch in the States via HBO.
