The movie is animated in the classic style of Charles Addams’ strips, “The Addams Family” doesn’t re-invent the wheel, but has a great time establishing the family for a new audience.
I don't think The Princess Bride or anyone involved with it need to defend the film against the fact that society has changed since its creation, but I can certainly see why a parent would be apprehensive to show it to a child today.
Set in rural Alabama, the film is centered around Nick Brenner (Luke Grimes ), a man who seems to have everything that a guy like him needs for a reasonably good life—a steady job, a loyal best pal in Sal (James Badge Dale ) and, most significantly, a loving wife in Tara (Marguerite Moreau ).
That would seem to give us an idea of what sorts of things we might see in the game, but whatever the new series ends up being about, there are a few classic Final Fantasy elements it absolutely needs.
The film is awash with pleasant colour and set design to match the performances, particularly that of Bill Nighy — charming but with an undercurrent of grief and waywardness, a desire for familial connection.
For those who read about the subject and are attracted to the film, this will be a fascinating exercise in style and in documentary filmmaking, but for those who do not feel any attraction to subject or to learning more about her, it will be a bit of a long watch that will feel like it’s not bringing much to them.
The film was clearly written with an actor like Adkins in mind as the fights are what’s best about it and they feel like a bit of a departing in fight-style for him, granting him an outlet to do something slightly different.
This film is a strange combination of a soap-opera style domestic thriller mystery, and a dark comedy; a mixture that you would think wouldn’t work, but director Paul Fieg somehow manages to pull it off.
Not only does she tell her story to White and the camera, but we follow her around NYC as she visits people from her past, whether they’re old flames or colleagues who helped shape her to become the successful woman she is today.
Honestly, the film’s portrayal of a character with severe disabilities in the role of the "bad guy” feels like a breath of fresh air compared to the sterility of the traditional corporately-funded and mainstream ideology. Glover’s directing style, like the sets, is also minimalist, favoring static compositions with little camera movement, yet it too remains stylistically distinct.
